In
the mid 1950's a Black River Astronomical Society made several visits
to Arizone and collected meteor fragments at the Barringer Meteor
Crater.
When he passed his family donated part of his collection to the Black
River Astronomical Society. Meanwhile, another founding father, Louis
J. Rick made a movie about the Meteor Crater. The movie was
subsequently lost, but the soundtrack was turned up many decades later
and the audio was used to make this video,.

In the summer of 2011 CALSKY
predicted a transit of the ISS across the face of the Sun
in our location. I had set it's parameters to search within
50 miles and months had gone by, when I received the email
showing this particular pass. I plotted it out on the map
and realized the transit would cross the very spot at
Sandy Ridge Metropark where we setup a few times a year to
do public outreach. I sent an email out to the guys and we
all converged at the appropriate date and time. This is
our story.....
Here's the video of our
October 23rd, 2014 Partial Solar Eclipse Expedition at
Ramsey Creek, in Cornelius, North Carolina. Thanks to
Officer Smith (Smitty) for helping me locate a park with
electric and allowing me to setup by their patrol station.
As a way of thanks I gave him and each of the Officers on
duty a pair of Solar Glasses, so they could pull over
while on patrol and observe the Eclipse safely. Many
others stopped by during the day as I was imaging and I
had discussions about safely viewing the eclipse with each
of them, as well as providing them with Solar Glasses. One
couple stayed and observed the eclipse with us. I'm so
glad they did because Chris was actually who saw the two
transits on the monitor and pointed them out to me. I
might have missed them otherwise!!!
The 2012 Transit of Venus
from Lakeview Park in Lorain, Ohio. A quick little movie showing
Comet Panstarrs as it appeared to us on March 22-23, 2013. John O'Neal demonstrates how
to remove and replace the Dome on his Skyshed POD.
